Mobile Suit Gundam= Where to begin on this series? It's arguably the most successful anime franchise ever, it has spawned countless prequels, sequels, ova's, movies etc. One thing that has become apparent is that the Japanese sure do love giant fighting robots :P Overall this will be a great anime for mecha fanatics and it's certainly worthwhile viewing to watch what kick started the whole Gundam phenonium.
